Cordillera's Puppies

Why We Breed Greater Swiss Mountain Dogs

We breed Swissies because they are beautiful wonderful dogs and more people deserve the chance to own one. We aren't in it for the money and we aren't in it for the social life or activities. For us it is all about the dogs. Other folks deserve the joy that Swissys bring and it is our goal to spread that joy in a responsible ethical way.

How We Breed greater Swiss Mountain Dogs.

We are small volume Swissy Breeders averaging 2 litters per year. Depending on litter size we may place 5 to 15 puppies annually. All of our breeding stock are screened for genetic health issues and have good temperaments. We gather as much health and temperament information as possible about the breedings that we do. All of our puppies are whelped and raised in the house. We never use brokers or sell to pet shops. All of our companion puppies must be spayed or neutered and we offer specific written health guarantees. We accept a lifetime responsibility for our puppies and will accept them back without condition. We are available for consultation and support for all of our puppy owners.

Getting a puppy from us

In order for you to get one of our puppies we need to know as much as possible about you, your situation, your experience with dogs in general and Swissies in particular. If you have met a GSMD. What you have learned about Swissys so far and why you want a Swissy. You can help us get started by filling out our Inquiry form which gives us a starting place to work from. If you are local expect to arrange time to meet us and our dogs and if you are at a distance be prepared to spend significant time on the phone getting to know us and telling us about yourself. You will also need to review and understand our Purchase Agreement.

We expect you to ask us some questions as well which we will answer honestly. it is important that you feel comfortable and trust us so the we can give you support if you need it.

After we get to know each other if you are still interested in getting a puppy and we feel that it is likely that we will have a puppy for you we will discuss the process in depth. We will ask for a deposit that is fully refundable if we don't end up having a puppy for you but which you forfeit one half of if you don't want the pup we choose for you.

That's right we will be choosing your puppy. We have a lot more experience than you do in selecting puppies for a particular situation. We temperament test our pups at 7 weeks and we make every effort to place each one in a home that provides the greatest chance for success. At eight weeks we grade the pups for conformation and make our final selections. We never allow the puppies to leave before 8 weeks.

If you are local we will schedule a time to pick up the puppy and complete the paperwork. Expect to spend a couple of hours doing this. If you are flying in to pick up your puppy we suggest that you stay overnight or allow at least 8 hours between arrival and departure. We will ship puppies on direct flights where there is no change of planes and the flight duration is less than 4 hours. You are responsible for all transportation costs including the crate and health certificate. We will be giving you a binder with a lot of information about the background of your puppy and information on health issues common to Swissies, training, feeding and where to go for more information.
